This year Europe’s largest fair for attractions, leisure parks and everything else you need took place in Gothenburg in the beginning of October. Namely the Euro Attractions Show (EAS). Facing the Liseberg Amusement Park, more than 400 exhibitors presented their work. Some activities directly took part in Liseberg, nevertheless rides on Helix at night were the icing on the cake for everyone.
Having introduced their new virtual reality technology in their “Alpenexpress Enzian” in September, Mack-Rides was all for it. Another interesting approach realised on “Bluefire” can be found here (link). I am looking forward to seeing more of projects like this since there is very positive feedback.
ABC-Rides presented a model of their „Tourbillon“ a ride with 3-axis rotation. It’s massive structure is rather impressive. Sadly this ride is leaving Europe and will thus not be in reach for many.
Summing up their work as “Flying theatre” many companies present their models and animations of a ride-system that looks quite a lot like Disney’s „Soarin“. I experienced a ride by Dynamic Attractions in China at the Wanda Movie park a few months ago. This approach seems the most convenient to me at the moment. I believe that there will be at least two similar attractions in Europe in the near future.
I was rather glad to see that many newcomers and young people have found their way to Gothenburg. I have worked together several times with IMAscore in connection with my agency but I have never met them so far. In Gothenburg I was now able to visit them at their own booth. IMAscore is linked closely to Gothenburg and especially to Liseberg as they have produced soundtracks for both „Mechanica“ and „Helix“. A making of Helix’s soundtrack can be found here (link). Further on I had quite interesting talks with Coaster-Lab’s Camiel Bilsen and many more interesting people.
But back to my favourite: Helix. In my mind it is one of the most exciting roller coaster projects of the last few years at least in Europe not to say in the world.
Helix rides at night alone were already worth the long journey. It’s unique position on a hillside, it’s variation of different riding experiences, it’s overall seven inversions and last but not least the overall excellent driving characteristics make this ride exceptional. In partnership with Mack-Rides an extraordinary ride was erected at Liseberg which I was long looking forward to ride.
Next time EAS will take place at Barcelona. I can’t wait to see old and new faces to talk with about my passion: roller coasters.
